Timbrell's Yard

Timbrell’s Yard is everything a fresh-air-and-flop break should be, with a storybook riverside perch, farm-to-table food and oak-beamed rooms dressed in feather-grey weaves and bold-patterned prints. Scandi-style sheepskins sit on wicker furniture and patchwork tiles add contemporary punch, yet the character of this 18th-century listed building is sensitively preserved in exposed stonework and leaded arch windows. At the bar, guests and locals sup craft ales and West Country ciders by the fireplace, while outside the Avon swirls lazily towards nearby Bath.

Timbrell’s Yard is in the centre of the teentsy town of Bradford-on-Avon, looking out over the river. It’s seven miles to Bath, or three miles in the other direction to Wiltshire’s county town, Trowbridge.

Small Double

These cosy doubles are located on the first and second floors of the oldest part of the property. Each has been fully renovated and decorated with modern furnishings to complement the original features, such as ceiling beams and window seats that overlook the river. Ominously named, yet quite pleasant, Room 101 (12.1sq m) is and has a double bed and Room 201 (13.6sq m) has a king-size antique bed; both have ensuite shower rooms (3sq m), plus free WiFi, a TV, free bottled water, Bramley bath products, and tea- and coffee-making facilities.

Standard Double

These three bedrooms are in the new part of the hotel. Despite potentially restricted views, each is light and bright with contemporary wallpaper, white wood-panelling, and a mix of soft furnishings in pastels or dark wood. River Walk

Overlooking the River Avon, these three rooms are individually decorated with cool contemporary furnishings. Room 301 has a chic urban feel with exposed brick walls, wood panelling, charcoal-grey furnishings, and dark-grey, chevron-patterned pillows on the king-size bed. In contrast, Room 302 has a more countryside feel with light-grey plaid-and-floral wallpaper, sheepskins on the dressing-table chair, and soft pink and yellow pillows on the king-size bed. Room 303 is decorated in different shades of blue and has whimsical feature walls. Stylish modern furnishings are juxtaposed against the original ceiling beams and exposed stone walls of these sizeable rooms. Room 103, on the first floor, has an antique, French king-size bed and is decorated with rustic furnishings; Room 106, on the second floor, is more modern in style with black curtains and chevron-patterned lamp-shades and curtains. Both have freestanding roll-top bath tubs in the room and ensuite shower rooms.
