The Lygon Arms

The Lygon Arms in Broadway is a hotel with history. Since opening in the 14th century, its guestbook has been scribbled in by the names of many dignitaries, including Charles I and Prince Philip. The hotel’s retained its rural charms, offering suites filled with locally sourced antiques and period features such as stone fireplaces and beamed ceilings. Nothing says country retreat like cosying up under a tartan blanket by the fire, although the spa’s pool, sauna and steam rooms may be enough to coax you out.

The Lygon Arms is a luxury hotel in Broadway, one of the more bucolic corners of the Cotswolds.

With antique furniture, period features, and photos of the inn in days gone by, each of these rooms (15sq m) is unique and perfect for solo travellers taking a short break in Broadway village. Decorated with antique furniture by designer Gordon Russell and contemporary, country touches throughout, these 20sq m rooms combine the best of Lygon’s past and present. Main House Classic

Each of the Main House Classic rooms (approx. 24sq m) has its own unique character with period features, beautifully restored antiques and artworks from the inn’s past. The Main House Superior Suites (from 30sq m) are located in the main inn. They are decorated with a distinct combination of antiques, period features and luxury modern touches. All have a king-size bed topped with a British mattress handmade in Devon and a sofa which can be converted into a bed for an extra guest, subject to additional charges. The ensuite bathrooms have a walk-in shower, and there's a traditionally-styled sitting area, too. Set on the ground floor of a modern extension, these suites (32sq m) are moments from the spa, with a private, furnished terrace. In the ensuite bathroom, you'll find either a walk-in shower and separate bath or an over-bath shower. Charles Suite

Brimming with the hotel’s historic nature, this suite housed one of its most eminent guests, King Charles I, in 1694 one night before a battle in the English Civil War. To mark this occasion a coat of arms hangs over the suite’s fireplace. Decor is stylishly traditional with an antique wooden four-poster bed (topped a bespoke mattress made in Devon), the lounge is studded with period features and antique furnishings, and the bathroom has a walk-in shower and separate bath tub. This suite is also suitable for families because it has one double sofa bed and the possibility of an additional extra bed, subject to charges. Decorated in shades of heather and grey, this handsome suite is a testament to Broadway-based designer Gordon Russell, whose work can be seen throughout the hotel.
