The Franklin

Anouska Hempel knows a thing or two about looking good (when you’re born with a face like hers, you can hardly help it). The Franklin is Hempel in hotel form: refined and ravishing in equal measures. Taking a cue from its sister Blakes, the hotel throws its cap at foreign lands – in this case, Italy. Even Gina Lollobrigida couldn’t fault the taffeta-and-velvet-bedecked dining room, the glittering bar, or the ravishing rooms and their fancy sandstone bathrooms. One thing is deliciously English, though, and that’s the setting: a prime cut of cultured Kensington, with some of the city’s best bits on your doorstep.

The Franklin has an enviable location close to both Knightsbridge and Kensington (London's most lah-di-dah districts), a stroll from the Victoria and Albert Museum, Harrods and other Big Smoke heavyweights.

Superior Room

The light and spacious Superior rooms are styled with Anouska Hempel’s inimitable and eclectic taste. Each room has a bespoke Simmons double bed with art nouveau-inspired details and Italian Frette linens. Each room has a TV, desk and minibar; in the Italian sandstone bathroom, you’ll find a majestic bath tub and a stash of full-sized Penhaligon’s bath products. WiFi is free.

Deluxe Room

These rooms have extra space and a few more city-chic flourishes. Each bathroom has a rain shower, and windows overlook the plane trees in the garden or the Knightsbridge skyline. Each room has a desk, TV, free WiFi and a stash of full-size Penhaligon’s bath products – plus marshmallow-soft bathrobes and towels – in the bathroom.

Junior Suite

Thanks to Anouska Hempel’s design flair, the Junior Suites are bright and contemporary, decorated with mirrors, and elegant furnishings. They’re high-tech too, with Bluetooth-enabled, Samsung flatscreen Apple TVs and Jenson phones. Each suite has a high-spec bathroom featuring fancy Italian sandstone, with a majestic bath tub (or shower) and a stash of full-size Penhaligon’s bath products. These suites survey the garden or Knightsbridge in all its finery. There’s a desk and a minibar stashed with gourmet munchies too. An extra bed can be added on request (£75 per night for children aged 13+ or adults, and £32.50 per night for a child up to the age of 12). Please contact the Smith team to book with an extra bed.

Executive Suite

Anouska Hempel’s one-bedroom suites are styled with unabashed decadence: dark, moody interiors, velvet furnishings and glossy fittings. The bathroom is fashioned from Italian sandstone, with either a bath tub or a shower, a stash of Penhaligon’s bath products and bathrobes. If you need more space, these suites connect with a Suite or Junior Suite. There are views over Knightsbridge’s historic townhouses, and each suite has a TV, desk, minibar and free WiFi. Garden Suite

The Suites’ high-ceilinged splendour is elegant and timeless; the views are charming, thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the gardens. The bathroom has a huge bath tub and a trove of full-size Penhaligon’s bath products. Each bathroom also has a freestanding two-person shower. There are three Suites to choose from, each has a desk, treat-stuffed minibar and free WiFi.

Presidential Suite

Flooded with daylight and overlooking a leafy park square, this 62sq m suite features dark-wood parquet floors, vast mirrors and sumptuous furnishings, ensuring it has lashings of splendour. The suite has a living room with a velvet sofa and armchairs, a walk-in closet and a bedroom with a king-size four-poster bed dressed in luxurious Frette linens. The ensuite bathroom is lined with mirrors and white marble, and has twin sinks and a walk-in shower. You’ll also find free WiFi, a Samsung Smart TV, minibar, tea and coffee kit, free bottled water, a safe and Penhaligon's bath products. Bookings of this suite include 10% off the hotel’s à la carte menu, packing service and late check-out until 2pm (on request and subject to availability).
