Palazzo Daniele

Modernism meets old-world majesty at Palazzo Daniele, a Pugliese mansion celebrating 150 years of Italian art and hospitality. The 19th-century palazzo had served owner Francesco Petrucci's family for four generations until he threw open its doors, enlisting Milanese architects to strip out the clutter and restore its historic splendour. A year later, he lent his ear to fellow art collector and hotelier Gabriele Salini – the man behind Smith stay G Rough – who convinced him to transform it into a nine-suite guesthouse fit for their covetable art collection. Now, its period details have been married with minimalist furniture and striking art installations, and the once-formal atmosphere has been replaced by something far more familial. Set your body clock to southern-Italian time as you lounge in the orange grove, tan by the inky pool or swap stories with the chef as she prepares a traditional Apulian feast.

Junior Suite

Each of these 30sq m suites is unique, showcasing majestic period features and minimalist design. Frescoed ceilings and tiled floors sit alongside contemporary art from Italy and abroad, creating a striking juxtaposition of old and new. Each suite has large windows overlooking the verdant courtyard, a king-size bed and an ensuite bathroom with a walk-in rainfall shower. Royal Junior Suite

This 45sq m suite has impressive frescoed ceilings and a mosaic floor, but perhaps its most dramatic feature is the bathroom, a room with a 6-metre-high arched ceiling and a rainfall shower designed by artist Andrea Sala. The bedroom has a king-size bed, minimalist furnishings and a large window overlooking the verdant courtyard. There’s also free WiFi, a Marshall Bluetooth speaker, free bottled water and Grown Alchemist bath products.

Suite

There are five of these 40sq m suites, each full of period features, minimalist furniture and art from the owners’ impressive collections. They have high, frescoed ceilings, king-size beds and large windows overlooking Gagliano del Capo’s central square or the hotel’s inky pool. Each has a spacious ensuite bathroom with a large walk-in shower. There’s also free WiFi, a Marshall Bluetooth speaker, free bottled water and Grown Alchemist bath products. Black Suite

Accessed through a steep stone staircase, the 85sq m Black Suite penthouse is housed in an invisible black cube atop of the Palazzo with an expansive private terrace circling the the central courtyard. With sleek, minimal design and custom artworks by Thea Djordjadze and Francesco Arena, this suite has a spacious living room with a Lirico Sofa by Driade and a fully-equipped kitchen. In the bedroom, you'll find a double bed and a dramatically draped linen hiding a wardrobe, while the bathroom features a walk-in shower and a freestanding washbasin. Plus, there's Grown Alchemist bath amenities, Marshall Bluetooth speakers, Society linens and free Wifi throughout.

Torretta

This 32sq m duplex is set on the ground and first floor of the small tower, with direct access to the courtyard and gardens. On the ground floor, the living area has Tripoline chairs, a Vitra butterfly stool, photographic prints, a Bri Williams sculpture and a huge collection of literature classics in Italian from the 1930s. A red marble staircase leads up to the bedroom on the first floor, which has a queen-size bed and an ensuite bathroom. This duplex sleeps two guests, has free WiFi, Grown Alchemist bath products and a Marshall bluetooth speaker.

Master Suite

There are two of these roughly 125sq m suites, each with a spacious living room, two bedrooms with king-size beds and two ensuite bathrooms with freestanding soaking tubs and walk-in rainfall showers. In each, frescoed ceilings and period details are juxtaposed with minimalist furniture and contemporary art from the owners’ enviable collections, and both suites have large windows overlooking the town square. Master Suites also free WiFi, a Marshall Bluetooth speaker, free bottled water and Grown Alchemist bath products. On request, an extra bed can be added for a fifth guest.

Suite Apartment

Spread over 200sq m, this patrician three-bedroom apartment takes up an entire wing of the palazzo, and has a separate entrance for extra privacy. There’s a spacious living room with a vaulted ceiling, original mosaic floor and several sofas; a dining room and fully-equipped kitchen; and three large bedrooms, two with king-size beds and one with a queen-size bed. All three bedrooms have large ensuite bathrooms with freestanding bath tubs and walk-in rainfall showers. Sculpture, paintings and objects from the owners’ art collections are displayed throughout the apartment, and large windows overlook the hotel courtyard and town square. The bedrooms also have free WiFi, Marshall Bluetooth speakers, free bottled water and Grown Alchemist bath products. Two extra beds can be added on request.
