Monteverdi Tuscany

Monteverdi Tuscany isn’t just a hotel, it’s part of a Val d'Orcia-view village: with cobbled mediaeval streets, art galleries, an ancient church, and a peaceful pool. Flowers bloom prettily in the sprawling gardens, where guests loll by the pool and chef Giancarla doesn't just run a culinary academy but also proffers fabulous farm-to-table cuisine; spices, herbs and vegetables are plucked straight from the garden. The wellness centre and spa takes a cue from the glorious Tuscan surrounds too, with herb- and flower-infused treatments. As if this weren’t traditionally Tuscan enough, there’s also the ruins of a 12th-century castle to explore.

Monteverdi Tuscany’s location is enviable: a mediaeval hamlet called Castiglioncello del Trinoro, in the Val d’Orcia (a Unesco World Heritage site), midway between Rome and Florence.

Monte Cetona Suite

This spacious 58sq m suite has a private balcony with impressive views of the Val d'Orcia, handmade antique furnishings set against plaster-finished walls, and a king-size bed dressed in hand-dyed linens from C&C Milano. There's an ensuite bathroom with a walk-in rainfall shower, a large travertine soaking bath tub and organic amenities. The suite is also equipped with free WiFi, TV, free bottled water (still and sparkling), air-conditioning, heating, hairdryer, bath robes and slippers.

San Pietro Private Village House

With two bedrooms on separate floors, this villa offers plenty of privacy. Each bedroom has a king-size bed draped in hand-dyed linens and an ensuite bathroom with rain shower. This spacious hilltop home spread over three floors comfortably sleeps up to six people in three king-size bedrooms. Muri Antichi Private Village House

This six-bedroom villa spread over four floors is an idyllic Tuscan bolthole. A classic Renaissance house meticulously restored with local stone and wood, it’s a sprawling retreat with welcoming wood-burning fireplaces, a living and dining room, kitchenette (with an oven, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and coffee machine), wine cellar, library, gym, and spacious outdoor terraces for those long alfresco meals.
