Kinsterna Hotel

Go in search of the Greece of old at Kinsterna Hotel, an ancient Byzantine estate, overlooking the fairytale rock city of Monemvasia. Located in the eastern Peloponnese, it stands surrounded by olive groves, vineyards and citrus trees. Rooms whisper of history, with stone fireplaces and atmospheric balconies, where residents of the age-old village once crushed grapes into wine. Today, this timeless tale continues with tastings in the private cellar and bread-making classes with the local baker. Outside, a snaking infinity pool adds the final splash of luxury. These elegant rooms overlook the Aegean and the Rock of Monemvasia. Decor is in neutral hues with stylish rustic elements: a flash of rugged rock wall, wooden window-frames, and furnishings inspired by the pretty 'dentelle' lacework. There's a queen-size bed with super-soft Coco-Mat pillows, and the bathroom, lined in local marble, has a walk-in shower. Some rooms have a veranda or terrace and some have a fireplace. There's a flatscreen TV, free WiFi, minibar, air-conditioning, free bottled water and Korres bath products.

Byzantine Suite

These 30sq m vaulted suites overlook either the Aegean or the hotel’s grounds, and have a queen-size bed in the middle of the room. The spacious marble ensuite has a walk-in shower. Each room has free WiFi, a flatscreen TV, desk, laptop on request and bath products by Korres.

These sprawling 90sq m residences look out over the estate’s orchard gardens and has a private garden space with sun loungers. Inside there’s a living room with an inviting fireplace, a dining table and a sofa-bed (a rollaway bed for a sixth guest can be added on request). There are two bedrooms – one with a king-size bed and one with a queen-size bed; each has a private terrace and a marble ensuite bathroom with a walk-in shower. There’s also an espresso machine, a kettle, a minibar, a pillow menu, free WiFi and air-conditioning.

Kinsterna Family Suite

These 47-51sq m suites have uninterrupted views over the Aegean sea and the estate’s private vineyards. Each has a private veranda and a spacious living area furnished with antiques, a working fireplace and an inviting sofa. In the separate bedroom there’s a king-size bed, a sofa and a marble ensuite bathroom with a walk-in shower. A rollaway bed for a fourth guest can be added on request. There’s also an espresso machine, a kettle, a minibar, a pillow menu, free WiFi and air-conditioning.

The light-filled 39sq m Premium Residences are open-plan with prettily patterned furnishings throughout and azure-hued Aegean views from a private balcony or veranda – Residence C15 sports a Jacuzzi, too (there's an extra charge of €90 a night). Inside, there’s a king-size bed, a cosy seating area and an ensuite bathroom with a shower. You’ll also find a TV, an espresso machine, a kettle, pillow menu, air-conditioning and free WiFi.

The rustically romantic 41sq m Kinsterna Suites have sweeping views of the Aegean and the estate’s private vineyards. Due to the mansion’s historic walls, the suites vary slightly in layout, but each has a king-size bed, a comfortable seating area, a finely-carved fireplace and ensuite bathroom with a walk-in shower. You’ll also find free WiFi, air-conditioning, a TV, a minibar and a pillow menu.

Deluxe Residence

The elegant 58sq m Deluxe Residences are light-filled and supremely comfortable with partial ocean and garden views from a private balcony or veranda. Residence H11 also totes an outdoor Jacuzzi (there's an extra charge of €90 a night). Each residence has a separate living and dining room, a bedroom with a king-size bed, a feature fireplace and a walk-in wardrobe. These split-level villas are in the Kinsterna gardens next to a freshwater stream and have semi-private pools.
