Hotel Signum

The boutique Hotel Signum on Salina in the Aeolian Islands is a set around a series of tiled, landscaped terraces bursting with scented lime-trees, bougainvillea and honeysuckle. Many of the light and airy rooms have their own private terraces with views of the Mediterranean. The hotel restaurant serves delicious Aeolian fish dishes and sweet Malvesian wine.

Each of these rooms – which are in the pool area, near the gardens or on the mountain side of the hotel – has a double bed (or twins on request), air-conditioning, WiFi access, a minibar, satellite TV and an ensuite bathroom with a walk-in shower. Deluxe

Each of these 26sq m rooms are in the main part of the hotel on the first floor (some are in the historic part near the pool) has large windows that look out over the garden to the sea; some have a small French balcony overlooking the islands of Panarea and Stromboli and others have a private terrace. Each room is individually designed and has a double bed (or twins on request) and an ensuite bathroom with a walk-in shower. There’s also WiFi, a satellite TV and air-conditioning.

Executive

These light-flooded 30sq m rooms have dreamy Aeolian views: one is Signum’s verdant gardens framed in bougainvillea, the other of peaceful Pollara and sublime sunsets. Each has a terrace and elegant locally influenced design, with tiled flooring and a mix of classic and modern furnishings (wrought-iron beds, vintage armchairs, ottomans and desks). The bathrooms (one in terracotta, the other in white resin) each have a walk-in hydromassage shower. Rooms also have an LCD TV with Sky channels, free WiFi, climate control and a ceiling fan, a minibar, bathrobe and slippers and Signum Spa bath products.

This 40sq m suite has views of the sea and the nearby islands. There’s a living room with luxe lounge seating and a separate bedroom with a double bed (or twins on request), an in-room cast-iron bath tub and an ensuite bathroom with a freestanding bath tub and separate walk-in shower. Villa Suite

Each of these 55sq m suites overlooks the Tyrrhenian Sea and the distant islands of Stromboli and Panarea. Retaining some of the villa’s original features, the rooms have traditional cementine tiled floors and beamed ceilings, adding classic Aeolian character to an otherwise modern design scheme. Each has a spacious living area with a 1930s-style sofa, armchairs and coffee table; a bedroom with a king-size bed and private terrace; and an ensuite bathroom with a whirlpool bath and a walk-in shower.
