Hotel Cort

Hotel Cort is a 19th-century bank given a boutique beachy makeover by designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán – with madcap Moorish tiled floors, maritime-chic suites and island-inspired flotsam and jetsam, including surfboards and models of yachts. This Balearic bolthole is close to the beach, but it’s worlds away from a run-of-the-mill resort; the locally loved restaurant and bar spills out into historic Plaça de Cort – a lively and landmark-laced Mallorquin meeting spot.

Shop- and café-lined mediaeval alleyways run like rivulets into city-centre Plaça de Cort, where the hotel sits opposite the Baroque town hall – just 10 minutes’ walk from Palma Cathedral and a 30-minute walk from the coast.

Cocoon Double Room

This 22sq m room is stylishly outfitted in dove-grey and fawn. There’s a cosy king-size bed and a bathroom with a walk-in rain shower big enough for two. Junior Suite

Wooden floors and white walls in these spacious 35sq m suites are perked up with maps hung on the walls, wicker furnishings and royal-blue accents. There’s an open-plan bedroom and sitting area, and all suites overlook the interior courtyard, with the exception of a wheelchair-accessible suite that has views of Plaça Cort. Each room has a shower lined with blue-and-white tiles (some have a double shower), and suites include a cinematic flatscreen TV, private red-wine bar, minibar, coffee machine and a selection of teas (on request), air-conditioning and free WiFi.

Private Terrace Double Room

This 22sq m room – decked out in hues of terracotta and taupe – is on the fourth floor, and overlooks Plaça Cort, with fantastic views of the plunge pool and hotel terrace from a private, furnished 13sq m terrace. With 50sq m of floor space, these suites are spacious and stylish – decorated in a sophisticated palette of terracotta, navy and taupe. One has a pretty blue-and-white tiled terrace with day-beds. Decorated in sea-inspired shades, these 45sq m suites have Mallorcan, Scandinavian and Moorish design influences: white slatted-wood ceilings, wooden floors, furnishings in shades of white, cornflower blue and lapis lazuli, and nautical knick knacks including toy boats and fish fossils. French sliding doors separating the bedroom from the living room; the bedroom has ’s a king-size bed and there's a double sofa bed (€100 for over-16s, €60 for children 16 and under; for two children or one adult and one child) in the living area. The ensuite bathroom has a walk-in rain shower lined with Delft-style tiles (some have a double shower and one room has a bath tub). This 70sq m two-storey suite sits pretty over the hotel’s fourth and fifth floors. The private terrace is perfect for a romantic rendezvous, with a Jacuzzi and blush-hued city views. On the upper level there’s a bedroom with a cosy king-size bed, an open-plan ensuite with a shower and a freestanding bath tub fit for two; from here you can access the furnished terrace.
