Hospes Maricel & Spa is set in two 16th- and 17th-century-inspired mansions that sit right on the water’s edge with a bar overlooking the Med, an enticing restaurant and a spa area set in the caves by the waves. Within the hotel’s sandy-toned stones, you won’t hear a peep from Palma, though it’s just five minutes away.

They come with king or twin beds, LCD TV and a spacious bathroom awash with natural light, equipped with a stand-alone contemporary bath tub, bathrobes and slippers. A cot can be added, but little Smiths aren't allowed to stay during peak season.

There are six of these 38sq m double rooms in an annexe of the main building. Designed in classic Mediterranean style, with eco-friendliness in mind, the rooms have stone walls, wooden floors, a private unheated plunge pool and a king-size bed (but can be made up as twins). Furniture and artworks are contemporary, there's a plasma TV and free WiFi, and the modern bathroom with a shower is stylish and comfortable.
