Forest Side

A dream come true for the design minded and adventurous epicures, The Forest Side hotel will convince even the most unwavering urbanites to slow down and stay a night (or three) in the Lake District. The draw? A thoughtful renovation of a gorgeous Gothic pile, during which original Victorian fireplaces were saved and once robust gardens were restored. Fluffy Herdwick sheep graze on the grounds, the restaurant serves some of the best food in the Lake District, and the interiors are just right for the countryside setting—all without a spot of chintz.

The Forest Side is scenically set in the village of Grasmere, smack dab in the middle of the Lake District National Park.

Cosy Bedrooms

These 16-17.5sq m rooms are the smallest, but are big on style with Zoffany wallpapers and fabrics (and views of the grounds, courtyard or forest). With either a handmade queen- or king-size canopy bed, each room has a work desk and Herdwick wool carpets. The limestone-tiled ensuite bathrooms have either a walk-in shower or a tub for two, and there’s also a flatscreen TV, free WiFi, kettle and teas, coffee-making kit and Bramley bath products.

Superb Bedrooms

Gaze out on the grounds or the fells from the loveseat in these 21-32sq m rooms styled in soft pastels and Zoffany wallpaper and fabrics. It’s furnished with either a handmade queen- or king-sized canopy bed, work desk and Herdwick wool carpets.
